This course is designed to develop critical and creative thinking skills as students analyse texts, interpret ideas and information in a variety of forms. Students will go over the elements of a story and apply their understanding to the short stories covered. An important emphasis throughout the course is on strategies that contribute to clear, correct, and effective communication through debates, discussion and writing.
We will cover the following short stories :
The Monkey's Paw
The Awful Fate of Melpomenus Jones
The Possibility of Evil
The Imaginary Journey
This course is designed for grade 6 and up.
Please note that there will be no refund issued during the summer months.
In short stories, we learned how to identify different parts of a story and the themes in the story. I enjoyed reading the short stories and found them quite interesting. In novel studies, I enjoyed reading the books and afterward having debates about topics in the book.
It was really fun when we did impromptu debates because we learned how to prepare a small speech on any topic in just a few minutes.
