Paragraph Writing ( Grade 5/6)
The goal of this 8‑week course is to help students construct well‑organized, thoughtful, and stylistically strong paragraphs. This session builds on the skills taught in the fall and winter courses, but new students are absolutely welcome — all lessons are taught with guided modelling and step‑by‑step support.
What Students Will Learn
Sentence Fluency & Word Choice: Students practice creating smooth, varied sentences and choosing precise, effective words.
Crafting a Clear Topic Sentence: They learn to introduce the main idea in a focused and engaging way.
Developing Ideas with Writing Techniques: Students explore techniques such as developing a single moment in time, exploding an idea, zooming in, and using slow motion to add depth and detail.
Writing a Concluding Sentence: They learn to end their paragraph with a sentence that feels complete and purposeful.
Grammar & Punctuation Review: Key rules are reinforced to support stronger, more accurate writing.
Replacing Weak Words: Students learn to replace weight nouns with specific nouns and weak verbs with strong, vivid verbs.

In short stories, we learned how to identify different parts of a story and the themes in the story. I enjoyed reading the short stories and found them quite interesting. In novel studies, I enjoyed reading the books and afterward having debates about topics in the book.
It was really fun when we did impromptu debates because we learned how to prepare a small speech on any topic in just a few minutes.
