Reading Comprehension
Please note our winter semester is only 5 weeks long.
To be able to cover the curriculum for winter, the course will consist of 5 live classes and 1 recorded class.
Skill Development
In this course, students will strengthen the following skills as they read and respond to each story:
Comprehension — understanding key ideas, details, and themes
Vocabulary development — learning new words in context
Word attack skills — strategies for decoding unfamiliar words
Phonics — reinforcing sound–letter relationships
Recording information — organizing and noting important details

In short stories, we learned how to identify different parts of a story and the themes in the story. I enjoyed reading the short stories and found them quite interesting. In novel studies, I enjoyed reading the books and afterward having debates about topics in the book.
It was really fun when we did impromptu debates because we learned how to prepare a small speech on any topic in just a few minutes.
